Bachelor-/Masterthesis (m/w/d): Integration of a salt battery into an uninterruptable power supply

Uninteruptable Power Supplies (UPS) secure the power delivery to critical electrical equipment by supplying during an outage or grid instability from a backup battery. Typically, Lead Acid or Nickel Cadmium batteries are used as backup battery. They contain high toxic substances which are very critical to the environment and difficult to recycle. Salt batteries (SMC) are non-flammable, free of toxic material and 100% recyclable batteries. They become now very attractive to replace former mentioned toxic batteries. The SMC battery contains an own power conversion system with a battery management system and a digital interface for monitoring and control. 

Task description

• The thesis should address the integration of an SMC battery into an existing uninterruptable power supply structure and system
• The bus coupling to the communication module of the UPS and forwarding to an existing display an existing display should be implemented
• For the parallel operation of multiple modules a parallel HUB is to be designed as well
• The thesis is subdivided into a problem introduction, concept, design, implementation and verification section
• The thesis is coached by our senor staff and implemented in our laboratory in cooperation with the university
